How to achieve "Soft Waves"

One of my all-time favorite hairstyles is the "soft waves" look. Time and time again, it is one of the most requested styles by my clients. This is Sienna Miller's signature hairstyle. It's so natural and carefree. Very Boho!!

To create this look, you will need a 1" curling iron, a good thermal styling spray, medium to firm hold hairspray, and hair polish to add shine and separation.
I'm using a Enzo Milano Conico Curling Iron, but any good 1"in. curling will work as well. The key to achieve this style is that you wrap it around the barrel. If you have a Marcel or a standard spring curling iron, do not use the clamp, simply wrap your hair around it.
I find that the waves last longer if your hair is clean & blow-dried smooth but not straight.

To begin, start in the nape area and work your way up and forward. Leaving the top crown and fringe last.
A) Spray a section of hair (about a 1"in. width section) with a styling spray. I recommend Enjoy Styling Spray or Bumble and Bumble Styling lotion.
B) Starting at the root, wrap your hair section around the barrel, including your ends. Be careful not to burn yourself! But if you leave a couple of ends out, that's ok. This style looks perfect when it's not perfect
C) Gently hold the curl in place with your hand for a few seconds, and then gently release.
D) Continue working around your head, and when you reach your top crown area, work your way forward.

Once you"re done curling your hair, shake your head a little bit to loosen the curls. Try not to touch them too much until you put the finishing product in. Once they've loosen up a bit, add a little bit a shine polish, such as Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine. Lightly apply about a dime size to your fingertips and gently separate the curls. Once you've achieved your look, finish off with a
Hairspray. I love Redken 18 Quick Dry Instant Finishing Spray. Ta-Dah! All done!!

A special thank you to the lovely Katherine, for being my model :)
